If you are a fan of McDonald's Apple pies, you must love this Apple Pie Pockets which is similar to Apple Turnovers. If you never had the Apple Pie Pockets or Apple Turnovers, you can imagine it like this, two layers of flaky puff pastry filled with classic fruity apple pie filling. Apple pie pockets are rectangular pastry, while apple turnovers are triangular pastry. Unlike classic apple pie which is usually made with pie crust in a pie container, Apple Pie Pockets are more like small pastry, they are so light, flaky, delicious. With store-bought puff pastry and home-made apple pie filling, apple pie pockets are perfect treats in fall and winter. Great pastry as breakfast, snack, dessert!

Puff pastry sheet: 1
Apple pie filling: ~240g, follow the apple pie filling recipe to prepare the filling.
Egg: 1 (optional)

Note: this recipe gives 6 apple pie pockets, each apple pie pocket needs ~40g apple pie filling. If you donot have enough apple pie filling, you can put less.

Follow the apple pie filling recipe to prepare the filling.
Unfold thawed puff pastry sheet, firstly cut into 3 rectangular sheet evenly; then cut each rectangular sheet into 4 smaller pieces. In total, there are 12 pieces, each pie pocket needs 2pieces.

Roll the small pieces of puff pastry to about 1.5X or 2X original size, which is about 3-4″.
Place 30-40g apple pie filling on one puff pastry piece.
Get another piece of puff pastry, cut a few slits to allow steam to release during baking.

Place the vented piece on top of the pie filling, press together the edges of the top and bottom pieces.
Use a dinner fork to press and seal the edges.

In a small mixing bowl, whisk an egg. Brush the egg mixture lightly over each pie.(This step is optional, brushing a layer of egg can give better golden appearance)

Pre-heat the oven to 390°F.
Bake the pie at 390°F for 15mins, reduce the temperature to 350°F bake for another 15mins. Ready to serve!
